Frequently Asked Questions
Where are these services based?
Beside You operates mainly on the island of Malta. Nonetheless, due to the increasing popularity of online sessions, both spiritual accompaniment and wellbeing accompaniment services can now be offered to clients worldwide.
How long can I expect mental health support and spiritual accompaniment services to last?
Accompaniment, as understood by Beside You, does not adhere to a strict schedule of sessions. Instead, it provides a flexible style of support without any obligations. While it is advisable to allow time for both the service and the relationship to develop, using the service can be done on a one-time basis as well.
Are these services provided at no cost?
To advance this initiative and provide the related services, we do charge a fee. However, we have made an effort to keep these prices significantly low to enhance accessibility and acknowledge the rising cost of living. This approach reflects our commitment, as well as yours. Experience has taught us that assigning a monetary value creates a sense of accountability and seriousness. If you find that the standard fee is more than you can afford, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to listen and would be happy to discuss potential adjustments.
Are the services provided by Beside You accountable to an organisation?
Beside You operates as an independent initiative, maintaining professional accountability through its membership in the Maltese Association for the Study of Spirituality and Spiritual Accompaniment, as well as in international organisations. Regular supervision and ongoing training are attended to ensure high standards. Moreover, the initiative takes the Safeguarding Policy Document, adopted by the Church in Malta and Gozo, very seriously.
Do I need to be a Christian to benefit from these services?
Since our services are centred around your spiritual and wellbeing journey, you do not need to be a Christian to benefit from what we offer. Accompaniment has evolved into a professional service that can be beneficial for people of various faith traditions or even for those who have no religious tradition at all.
Is spiritual accompaniment therapy?
It is essential to clarify that accompaniment is not the same as therapy and should not serve as a substitute for treatment or the interventions provided by specialists. While there are some overlapping benefits and practices, therapy primarily addresses emotional wellbeing through psychological interventions. In contrast, spiritual accompaniment is centred on a person’s spiritual growth and their relationship with the divine and the wider community. It is about exploring and nurturing your inner self and your connection to the world around you.
